Passport Motors Joins Chapel Hill Tire
Two long-standing Franklin Street businesses came together to ensure continued access to high-quality car care in downtown Chapel Hill.
When Passport Motors closed its shop at 600 West Franklin Street, owner Jim Youngman and master technician Johnny Feathers joined the Chapel Hill Tire team just down the block at our 502 West Franklin Street location.
At the time, Youngman explained that a change in plans by his landlord prompted the move.
“About a year ago, our landlord informed us that they were selling the building. We immediately started looking for a new location, and after carefully considering all of our options, we chose to join the team at Chapel Hill Tire,” Youngman said. “They’re a great company that’s been in business in Chapel Hill since 1953.”
Passport Motors had developed a strong reputation among owners of European vehicles, particularly Volkswagens and Audis. Their experience and loyal customer base made the Franklin Street location a natural home for the next chapter of the Passport Motors story.

Jim and Johnny have since moved on from Chapel Hill Tire, but we remain grateful for the role they played in bringing the Passport Motors community into the Chapel Hill Tire family.
Today, our Franklin Street team continues to serve Chapel Hill drivers with comprehensive automotive maintenance and repair, including service for European vehicles.
